Driver Drowsiness Detection System

Robotics & Engineering

Project Results

Developed an Arduino-based Driver Drowsiness Detection and Alerting System using an Eye Blink Sensor and RF Transceiver module to monitor driver fatigue. This proactive system will enhance road safety by prompting necessary precautions to prevent accidents caused by drowsy driving.

Project Description

I've developed a Driver Drowsiness Detection and Alerting System to tackle the escalating issue of road accidents, primarily attributed to driver drowsiness. This innovative system utilizes an Arduino Nano, an Eye Blink Sensor, and an RF Transceiver module to monitor the driver's eye movements and issue timely alerts in the event of drowsiness.

The Eye Blink Sensor leverages infrared LED technology to detect eye blinks. It works by emitting energy from the infrared source, which is then reflected by an object and detected by the infrared detector, indicating potential drowsiness. Upon detection, I designed the system so that it triggers a warning message through a loud buzzer alert and flashing LEDs, prompting the driver to take necessary precautions.

With its proactive approach to detecting and alerting drivers experiencing fatigue, this system aims to enhance road safety and prevent accidents caused by drowsy driving.

Remarks

I successfully was able to finish my project that detects drowsiness in drivers with the help of my mentor. I secured a prize in a competition themed around Road safety technology under her mentorship. Her insightful feedback and assistance with coding, especially in Arduino, greatly enhanced my project. It was my first time working with Arduino, but her support made the experience both educational and enjoyable.
